Welcome!
World History is a yearlong survey course required of all ninth graders. We will be reviewing early history from the shift from hunting gathering to settlements (around 8,000 BCE) through the classical civilizations and then delving into a more thorough study of civilizations from 600 CE through the present. Throughout the year we will be focusing on nine major themes: historical skills; belief systems; empires; demography, technology, and the environment; imperialism, colonization, and nationalism; revolutions, decolonization, and nationalism; the globalization of conflict; the globalization of the economy; and genocide. Within each of these units, we will study events in chronological order and use the historical record to help explain what is happening in the contemporary world.
I approach history as a sequence of events subject to interpretation. I will engage you in the material; you will read, write, note take, think, debate, present your opinion, defend your opinion, and maybe even change your opinion.
